Inconceivable!

Since I don't really have anything to post, but I was feeling neglectful, I will comment on my friend's recent post that gave me a near coronary. (Lisa, proceed with caution...you have been warned.) Her brother is a super cool artist and made, among other things, a Star Wars poster for them with their own faces superimposed on the characters. As the descriptions of the main characters, she wrote, "The White Kid With A Gun", "Girl With The Crazy Braids", "Brown Furry Man Boy", "Gold G.I Joe", and "Rolling Robot". It's practically blasphemy. I'm trying to keep alive a hope that it is some kind of a sick joke. (You are joking, Sarah, right???) I'm really curious to know what she would call Yoda.

But then I realized, it was not so many years ago that I had not the slightest clue about Star Wars either. It was a prerequisite to my marriage, so I watched it for the first time when I was engaged, I believe. But I have a high tendency to fall asleep in movies, no matter how awesome, so I dozed off and on, and Todd called me on it. He quizzed me on what happened in the movie, and denying I had slept through much of it, I sleepily answered, "They were fighting, then resting, then fighting, then resting." Not a bad summation of many an action movie, but I did miss much of the good vs. evil theme.

As a side note, I watched "Pride and Prejudice" with my girls once and Brooke summed it up as "Dancing, then resting, then dancing, then resting." Quite accurate for many a romantic, period film too :)

I knew something of Star Wars before marriage. I have 5 brothers. Now I know all I need to know with the 4 boys loving Star wars. Gretchen thank goodnes likes to watch the romantics with me. Pride and Prejudice, one of our favorites,

Ok, so here's the truth: I had never seen a minute of any Star Wars movie before I started dating Chris, and he has them all memorized and has all the action figures and posters and costumes and accents and EVERYTHING. So - in an attempt to win him over, I vowed to watch a Star Wars movie just to prove how much he meant to me. I watched the first one in the privacy of my own living room and just didn't get it. But - I could appreciate the laser special effects and crud from back in the day.... I know I am probably the last American to admit my lack of knowledge, but it's true. As for Yoda's nick-name...I call him Shrunken Gumby With Bad Ear Hair.

You are all funny! I may not be a sci-fi junkie but I have seen star wars! I can't tell you every detail or quote them but I thought they were fun to watch.... Which I am sorry to say I can't say about Lord of the Rings. I am not sure why but I have only seen one and thought... ok big deal. Now don't kill me Alli and Todd! I think we can still be friends! (I hope!)

Thanks for the warning Alli :-) You know what a Star Wars fan I am. But I do understand that not everyone holds it in as high esteem as I do. (your husband might come close...but probably not) I would have to disagree with the "gold GI Joe" description, though. C3PO is much too chicken to be any kind of soldier or warrior!

I had to laugh at the Pride and Prejudice comment. My husband calls those English period films "shrubbery flicks." :)
