Someone once asked me what my twins talked about at nighttime when they were supposed to be sleeping. I recorded one of their conversations last week. So here's the answer. (audio only since stealth was of the utmost importance to maintain authenticity) This is what 6 yr olds talk about when they're supposed to be going to bed:

"That dog's playing baseball!"
Where are my stretchy pants when I need them?
So Amber gets home from her cruise in Mexico, and as thanks for watching Natalia, this is what she gives me! (I was way too excited) Incidentally, what does it say about me that she sees that and thinks of me? I'm not sure I want an answer to that question.
"I LOVE it! It's fanTAStic!" I think I'm just going to wear it around the house all day today.

What a Week!
We've had such a wonderfully busy, fun week! Obviously more busy than allowed me to check blogs and update, but good nonetheless. Amber and David got to go on a cruise and I am watching Natalia for her. My goal is to make Claire and her into best friends :) It's been a blast! (and I'm not just saying that because Amber might read this...) To have the two babies together is so much fun. And she's just a few months ahead of Claire so it's like I can see what Claire will be doing in the near future - like trying on everyone's shoes, blowing on her food (even if it's not hot, like cereal), babbling and nodding like she's really saying something important...My camera's been on the fritz, so the picture is an old one of the two of them together (you can tell by Claire's baldy head). Incidentally, that's been another joy of the week, being able to play with that girl's hair! My kids don't get any reasonable hair to speak of until about 2yrs old, so this has been fun :)

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
The first day of school was last Tuesday!!! (Is it wrong to be this excited?) I love this season. Ending of summer, a hint of crisp, cool air, the return of routines, earlier bedtimes...A few pictures from the girls' first day - if you look carefully, you can sense the gradual change of mood as the inevitable looms closer. I knew Sophie wouldn't have any apprehension, but since the twins were going to be in seperate classes this year, I was prepared for a little drama. Janelle got off ok (thanks in large part to having her same teacher as last year), but Brooke was a little more nervous. After I left it took only a minute for her to settle in. I'm sure every day will get a little easier.
Janelle is thinking, "Here goes nothing!" Brooke hasn't thought that far ahead.
Brooke still oblivious
This is Brooke getting a clue, "Janelle's gone. Sophie's gone. In a minute mom will be gone..."
"I'm not quite ready for this"
After her last desperate attempt to keep me from leaving, she heads into first grade all by herself. I feel like the umbilical cord has been cut all over again.
