The fun never ends
After my wonderful breakfast in bed, we headed to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

(The kids got a kick out of the grumpy fish.)
(Looks like someone dried her hands on the back of her pants :) )
It was such a nice day, we couldn't pass up a gorgeous afternoon at the beach.
By the time we got home, we only had a couple of hours before we went out for the evening. Friends Larry and Amanda,
and Dave and Tami
joined us
at a Roadhouse in Salem for dinner. Then we played a round of miniature golf, which I played characteristically bad, and dessert at Applebees (don't bother trying the fried bread pudding dessert - too soggy on the inside - though I hear the blondies and fudge cake are fabulous). It was a really great day - good for keeping my mind off the fact that I'm not getting any younger!

Somewhere in the world, Kirk Cameron,
Hugh Jackman,
and Luciano Pavarotti
are also celebrating their birthdays, but I bet none of them had their very own "b-day surprise cominity" [I think they were going for "committee" but got it mixed up with "community"]. The girls had their friends Keiana and Anne spend the night and they all got up at 6am and got to work. I heard little voices whispering things like "how do you spell your mom's name?" "A-L-I-S-I-N", and Brooke and Janelle sneaking in to my room asking me what my favorite animal was. I was tired and answered "elephant" and then "pygmy goat" for some reason, to which they asked, "How 'bout a dog or a cat?" The whole "cominity" (with official badges on even) brought me breakfast in bread, including a chocolate chip cookie, and a shoulder and foot massage! And there was only one hair in my toast :) What a wonderful morning!

My little Martha's
I love to decorate the house in the fall, and the girls thought they'd love to do some decorating in their bedrooms too - this is what they came up with:

A delicate bow and leaf garland accent on the side table lamp...
More bows and leaf garlands. You're probably dying to straighten out the pictures...
A pink scarf, a flower lei, and some leaves...why not? And next, my favorite...
A lone ribbon hanging from the ceiling :)

A Day of Firsts
Yesterday morning Claire took her first steps and in P.E. Janelle lost her first tooth! I happened to be subbing in her class that afternoon, so I got to be there. It was a milestone day :)

Self Reflections at age 8
We went to the open house at the girls' school last week, and Sophie had displayed a poster about herself. It reminded me of a similar project I did when I was her age (though mine is arguably much more fictional than hers).

Sophie's self portrait:
Autobiography:
"My name is Sophia Bevans. I was born on March 27, 1999 in Oregon. I was born in the hospital late in the night [around 4pm actually]. My mom said I made her most sick out of all my sisters. [very true] She also said that she could barely eat the whole time. My favorite things to do are go to school [blessed child], read, play games with my family, and play sports. My favorite foods are ice cream, pizza, corn, soup, carrotts, green peppers, bread, cake, brownies and chocolate. My favorite colors are green, purple, pink, oarnge, brown and blue. I collect jewlery, rocks and seashells. When I grow up I want to be a beautician or an actress [this week anyway], I like spending time with my family. Here are some of the things I like to do for fun with my family. I like to play outside with my twin sisters Brooke and Janelle, I like to play peekaboo with my baby sister Claire. On Fridays we always have movie night. On movie night we stay up late and sometimes we eat treats. Movie night is one of my favorite nights of the week. All these things make me who I am."
Illustrations:
When I was born:

"When I was born I was 8 pounds and 5 onsis. I was middle front [in the picture]. And whenever I had my picture taken I made a funny face. And I was very quiet and cute [and humble]."
My family:
"My mom works at Yalli [some place in Yemen] and she is a librarian. My dad works at cid [some other place in Yemen, associated with OSU]. My sister Shanna always tesis [teases]." [note who is colored, why only the most important person of course! Steven got his hair colored. And everyone has freaky legs because that's how I drew legs out of the bottoms of skirts.]
I am happy when:
"I get happy when it is my birthday. I feel happy when people play with me. I fell happy when I understand what is going on."
I get angry when:
"I get angry when people boss me around. I get angry [when] people shout at me. [and my favorite...] I get angry when Steven does not do what I want him to do."
When I have to get away:
"When I have to get away I hurry up and do what my mother tells me to." [Yeah, sure I did.]
My favorite place:
"My favorite place is in America and it is Disneyland. Disneyland has a lot of different things to do. And it also has lots of rides to go on." [I didn't go to Disneyland until I was 21 years old...I like the picture of Mickey Mouse though - he looks like a character from "Arthur"]
My favorite person:
My favorite person is my grate grate grate grate grandma. [we were always really close] My grandma. My grandpa. My grate grate grate grate grandpa. And my family. They are spechel people."
In the future:
"When the year of 2000 I will be grown up. And I want to be a teacher. Our I will want to be a police." [In actuality, I was pregnant with Brooke and Janelle in 2000]
